The Scandanavian eagle that graces the label of Mosby Winery clutches a wine glass in one talon and a knife and fork in the other. An accompanying passage in Latin from the Old Testament reads, ![]()
Mosby's symbol and quote from the Book of Psalms reflects an ages old tradition of pairing wine and food for sustenance, sensual pleasure, nutrition, and well-being. The marriage of food and wine as symbolized in the label reflects the winemaking philosophy of owners Bill and Jeri Mosby.
Bill believes that wine should be food friendly, and that consumed in moderation, wine is the beverage of celebration and good health. The Mosbys are committed to producing supple and giving wines, that stand well on their own, yet provide a perfect partnership with many different cuisines.
1998 marks the 18th vintage for Mosby Winery
Mosby produces up to 10,000 cases of wine each year. A restored, yet eminently rustic 1860's carriage house also houses the charming tasting room. Bisected by Nojoqui and de la Cuesta Creeks, the winery grounds are home to cougars, foxes, bobcats, and other species which roam the hilly oak-studded land.
Few wineries this side of the Atlantic Ocean
produce as many distinctive Italian varietals as Mosby.
While Bill makes award-winning Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, the rare and exciting Teroldego, Traminer Aromatico, Moscato and Primativo, he has broadened his scope to include Grappa di Traminer produced from estate-grown Gewurztraminer, Distillato di Prugne Selvaggie (from wild Pacific plums), and Acqua di Lampone (from Oregon raspberries).
